Get Rid Of The Back Pain With Lumbar Pain Surgery
The part of the body that bears most of the body's weight is called the lower back and this region is the connection between the upper and the lower part of the body. When we suffer from lower pack pain, it affects the part of our body below the ribs and above the legs. The lower back surgery, generally called the lumbar pain surgery, is commonly of two types - decompression and spinal fusion. The low pack pain does not always involve surgery. However, if non-surgical treatment is not effective, the doctor recommends lumbar surgery. The surgical procedure, though, will depend on the cause of the problem and the preference and experience of the lumbar surgeons. The lumbar spine surgery is used to treat vertebral problems like spinal bones disks and nerves of the lumbar spine.
The lumbar spinal surgery is usually done after giving a general anaesthesia. The anaesthesia makes one unconscious, and hence, pain free. A surgical cut is made over the problem area to remove the bone and the tissue covering the spinal cord. The lumbar fusion surgery is so designed, that it can stop the movement of the painful vertebral segment, which in turn decreases the joint pain. It involves adding a bone graft to the particular spinal area that sets up a biological response. This leads to the growth of the bone graft between both the vertebral elements. As a consequence, the motion of the segment ceases and relieves the patient from back pain. The back fusion surgery is mostly effective in case of a single vertebral element. Sometimes fusing two segments is also a reasonable option for the pain. Another kind of back pain surgery is the lumbar decompression surgery. This surgery is performed in case of neural impingement and helps to alleviate pain caused by pinched nerves. In this surgical procedure, a portion of bone over the nerve root or disc material from under the nerve root is removed. This gives more space to the nerve roots and provides a better healing environment. There can be various causes for nerve impingement including a disc herniation, spinal stenosis, degenerative spondylolisthesis, isthmic spondylolisthesis, and sometimes a spinal tumor. The lumbar disc surgery is a new type of surgery that is still not very common. Generally, it is known as the herniated lumbar disc surgery. Herniation usually occurs between the fifth lumbar and first sacral vertebrae. The major cause of this degenerative disc disease is the degeneration of the longitudinal posterior ligaments and annulus fibrosis. Adults over 35 years of age usually suffer from this disease. The different surgical procedures followed in this diseased condition are microdiscectomy, percutaneous lumbar discectomy, transforaminal endoscopic discectomy and laproscopic discectomy. There are also various back surgery options like discectomy, foraminotomy, laminectomy, spinal disc replacement and many more. |
